Blue tits nesting in walls

More information about what you can do if blue tits are nesting in your walls.

About nesting blue tits

Blue tits nest in crevices in all sorts of surfaces. This includes tree trunks and walls.

Active nests cannot be removed; under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 it is an offence to intentionally take, damage or destroy any active wild bird's nest in the UK.

This means they must be left until they become inactive and then you can get a builder in to repoint the wall so it does not occur again.

For next year you can encourage them back using a nestbox. You can buy a nestbox from our online shop, or have a go at making your own.
