About

Seven miles southwest of Thurso in Caithness, you’ll find the striking mix of habitats that make up Broubster Leans. Here, wet grassland, pools, channels and pastures of rushes nestle in a picturesque farmland setting. It’s the ideal spot for Greylag Geese, Lapwings and Whooper Swans who feed, nest and rest on the reserve.

Wetland habitat is disappearing at an alarming rate, making protected areas like Broubster all the more important. We’re working with others to share the wonder of wetlands and help protect even larger areas.  In the summer months, the reserve blooms with an array of colourful flowers that attract the Great Yellow Bumblebee.
