Rainham Marshes

Paul Samuels has featured on here before with his wonderful vignettes of Rainham life...

This is the first in a series of films that he will create throughout the year as an introduction to our reserve.

  • Pylon Predators...

Peregrines are back to very much being a feature of the marsh this time of year and there is a really good chance of you bumping into at least one on your visit. I have been keeping tabs on all the comings and goings and (with help from Dave Morrison) I reckon that we have at least eight different birds using the marsh to hunt for prey. Checking the pylons is a good bet, especially the top of the tallest ones.  If you are lucky enough to see one close by, can you check to see if any are sporting coloured rings? If you do can you please let us know is the centre upon your return.

Les Harrison snapped this adult with a Collared Dove recently...

  • Patrolling the edges...

As you probably all know, the anti-predator fence was a fantastic success this year with our best Lapwing and Redshank productivity ever. We still have Foxes of course; they do have a place here, just not inside the fence!

Bill Crooks found this fine animal peering in from the outside....
