We're about more than just birds (though obviously we like them a lot).

Hi everybody! Hope you've all had a great Christmas and are checking this site for an opportunity to use your expertise. this is probably a simple one but I was having an early Spring clean to liberate some disk space and I came across this photo taken last Spring and although it looks Great Tit-like there is virtually no yellow and a much larger area of black than the normal. is it just a genetically adventurous specimen or a type I know nothing about (which wouldn't be difficult!). I haven't 'de-saturated' the colour so this is a true record. Thanks in advance.

  • John,  Definitely a great tit and I would say it is either the light from the angle it was taken or simply one with a washed out colour.  Birds will vary in appearance and I suppose this is how genetic variation starts, some times it carries on other times it dies out.
