What we're looking for

Garston Wood is a haven for wildlife, tucked away in a quiet corner of Dorset near Sixpenny Handley. We organise regular work parties at the reserve to carry out habitat management including hazel coppicing, ride creation, rustic fence building and general scrub clearance. All the tasks benefit the species that live there, including dormice, woodland birds and butterflies.

The skills you need

You will need enthusiasm, an interest in conservation and to enjoy working as part of a team. No specialist skills are required though a desire to work outside in all weathers is essential. You will need an up-to-date tetanus injection and be physically able use hand tools and walk up to 2 miles through woodland.

Your time

Minimum:
As regularly as possible
Duration:
Wednesday and Sunday
Period:
October - March

What's in it for you?

This is an opportunity to become part of a small team, learning about the running of the reserve and building up skills in woodland management. You will be working in a beautiful place and see some amazing wildlife.
