Welcome Volunteer, Ribble Reserves

Vacancy type:
Publicity and promotional, Showing people wildlife, Helping visitors at our reserves
Location:
Ribble Reserves

What we're looking for

Our visitors centre and hides at RSPB Marshside nature reserve offer unmatched views of wildlife throughout the year. We need volunteers to welcome visitors to this reserve and enhance their experience, being a friendly face in our hides. Inspiring people about the work we do and encouraging them to become members is extremely important. RSPB membership really is the lifeblood of the Society and underpins every single thing we do. It helps us fund nature conservation work at Marshside and across the UK - not only the ongoing land management of our reserves but also by creating and enhancing magnificent wild spaces for nature and people to enjoy.

The skills you need

Essentially, you need to be a good 'people person' comfortable and happy chatting to visitors, enthusiastic, friendly, able to inspire others to join the RSPB as members. Good personal organisational skills will be necessary to handle a small amount of paperwork and also to ensure promotional literature is in place. An interest in conservation and environmental issues is also important, although not essential - you don't need to be a bird expert! You need to be comfortable with occasionally opening, closing and staffing the hide alone, and getting to the reserve under your own steam.

Your time

Minimum:
1 x 2 hour shift per week
Duration:
Ongoing
Period:
All year round

What's in it for you?

This role will suit anyone who loves to meet and talk to visitors and who would gain satisfaction from encouraging people to support the RSPB as members. It's also a great opportunity to work at a beautiful wildlife reserve, learning more about nature, birds and wildlife whilst making a real difference to the work of the RSPB!
