Thursday 11 June 2015
Vacancy type:
Practical conservation, Corporate and employee volunteering
Location:
Weald Reserves

What to expect

Broadwater Warren nature reserve, between Tunbridge Wells and Groombridge, was acquired by the RSPB in 2007 as an extensive coniferous plantation. Since then, we have been working to restore the site to lowland heathland, a now rare, but richer habitat for wildlife. The woodland is also being carefully returned to its natural grandeur, much to the delight of resident dormice and many invertebrate species. Facilities: car parking

Your group

Team Challenges are muddy and energetic, but that's all part of the fun! We will supply all tools and the necessary protective equipment such as gloves. No skills are required, just make sure to bring old clothes, waterproofs, plenty of drinking water and packed lunches. Group size: 7 - 40

July - March

The skills and time provided by corporate teams are incredibly valuable to the RSPB. Corporate work parties help us tackle jobs that would otherwise take our wardens days or even weeks to complete. Employee volunteering also helps us to build community links and valuable business support, and many of our business volunteers return to our reserves with family and friends after their volunteer experience. Some even join as members and become life-long supporters.

How you will help us

Help us with our nature conservation work; we have a variety of projects running throughout the year including: creating woodland verge habitat for butterflies, scrub removal, pine pulling and bracken bashing across our heathlands. All of which benefit wildlife. Start the day with a talk introducing you to the reserve and the RSPB, before heading out on your conservation task. Enjoy the afternoon spotting the site's fascinating wildlife with one of our knowledgeable wardens.
