Vacancy type:
Office and administration
Mid Yare Valley, Strumpshaw

What we're looking for

Our beautiful reserve at the heart of the Broads is an amazing place to connect children and families to nature. It is also an inspirational place to introduce new audiences to the importance of the RSPB's work to save nature. If we can bring new families here and get them excited about wildlife, we can start them on the journey of becoming supporters of our work. As a member of our team you would help us to achieve this goal. Through a range of events on the reserve and out in the local communities, we aim to get many families 'bitten by the wildlife bug'. We need you to join our existing team of amazing volunteers and bring your enthusiasm and warm welcome to participating families. It is through our friendly and knowledgeable volunteers that we have the biggest impact on the families that visit the reserve. You can make a really positive difference and spark a life long passion. The more volunteers we have, the more families we can reach. You could also choose to take on additional tasks: such as welcoming and orientating visitors; or speaking to visitors about RSPB membership.

The skills you need

- to be professional but friendly to welcome families that come to our events - to be good with children and enjoy helping others engage with nature. - tact and diplomacy. - to be able to take initiative. - stamina and bags of enthusiasm as some events can be busy for a number of hours. - some natural history / conservation knowledge (desirable but not a necessity) – you'll soon pick up a lot of information so a willingness to learn is vital.

Your time

One day a month minimum
All Year

What's in it for you?

- can learn new skills in event management, people engagement and engaging successfully with children. - will have lots of opportunities to deepen your wildlife and conservation knowledge and to share what you already know with the public and team. - will find volunteering with the events team fun and varied. You will be helping at a variety of settings both off site and at RSPB Strumpshaw Fen. - will gain an insight into the varied work of the RSPB, the largest conservation charity in Europe.
