What we're looking for

If you enjoy talking to people and have a good knowledge or birds and or wildlife then this may be the role for you. Essentially it's about sharing your enthusiasm with others so our visitors go away feeling inspired about nature and already planning their next visit! We'd also ask you to be our eyes and ears on the nature reserve, bringing any issues to the attention of staff (e.g. maintenance, dogs not under control , littering,) so that they can be addressed promptly. The role includes: * Talking to visitors in our bird hides, along trials and viewpoints with the purpose of interacting with visitors about wildlife sightings * Leading and supporting staff on guided walks. * Noting and reporting on the condition of hides and trails, and other issues such as dogs not under control * Assisting with events being held on the reserve. To share your enthusiasm with adults children and families and hopefully inspiring a lifetime's interest in birds, wildlife and conservation * Recognising opportunities for visitor survey feedback and/or membership and passing these on to the Visitors centre

The skills you need

We are looking for people with good interpersonal skills and an infectious enthusiasm who are confident speaking to the public. A smart appearance and a welcoming, approachable, friendly manner are essential. A good level of bird and other wildlife knowledge and a willingness to learn about birds and wildlife are essential Familiarity with the reserve and its birds would be an advantage . A reasonable level of fitness is required as you will need to walk to and from hides.
