What we're looking for

Eastern England is an amazing place for wildlife. The variety of species and habitats is outstanding - but they are disappearing at an alarming rate. 10% of all UK species are now under threat. We're determined to stop this happening, but we urgently need your help. Our community fundraising volunteers – through the pin badge scheme - are the local face of the RSPB. Last year, in Eastern England, the team raised more than £100,000 in donations from our pin badge and collection boxes, and almost £1 million nationally. Could you help us raise even more? When you join our team of over 150 volunteers, who are crucial to the running of our pin badge scheme, we will support you to place 5 - 10 boxes in your chosen area. We have a unique range of over 100 beautifully-designed, high-quality enamel badges depicting UK wildlife – including birds, animals, flowers and insects. They are great to wear and very collectable to people of all ages. We ask for a suggested donation of £1 per badge. Each box must be visited every four weeks, at your convenience. Badges are replenished and donations counted on site. The money is then banked at your local Post Office or Payzone location using a personalised Payzone card supplied to you. You will then record the donations collected on your home PC, using our secure online database, and order any additional badges and stock required. This can all be done at a time that suits you. Simple!

The skills you need

The role requires a friendly and personable approach, a high level of motivation, basic computer skills and the ability to work on your own. In addition, knowledge of your local shops, businesses, pubs and tourist attractions as well as potential sites for new boxes in your area would also be very helpful. No expert knowledge of birds or wildlife is required – just an interest in supporting our vital conservation work.

What's in it for you?

Be part of something big – a vast movement working together to help save nature. Helping us fundraise with our pin badge boxes is a rewarding and simple way to raise valuable funds for the RSPB. The role is very flexible, working around your availability to visit the boxes you manage. It is an enjoyable role that will get you out and about meeting people in your local area. It's also an excellent way to develop your fundraising skills and boost your CV. We will provide you with all the information and equipment you need to fulfil the role and you will be supported at all times by your local Community Fundraising Officer, based at our regional office in Norwich. Appropriate expenses will be reimbursed where necessary.
