What we're looking for

To help lead one of our Wildlife Explorer Youth groups, and alongside your fellow leaders, give young people the opportunity to explore, discover and enjoy the natural world through monthly group meetings. Two groups are currently looking for main leaders to join their team: Shetland Wildlife Explorers and Mersehead Moorhens in Dumfries. Being part of RSPB Youth Group is a fun, fulfilling and challenging experience that gives you the chance to contribute to RSPB Wildlife Explorers (the junior membership of the RSPB) and Giving Nature a Home. We believe young people are tomorrow's conservationists and that's why we need your help to make sure they gain experience exploring the wildlife near them. The RSPB has over 90 RSPB Wildlife Explorers groups across the UK and we wish to increase this number, to continue and grow the fantastic work these groups do.

The skills you need

Boundless energy and enthusiasm. The ability to communicate with young people and work with others to help develop a programme and exciting monthly sessions. You will need to attend a days training course during your first year. Our RSPB Wildlife Explorer groups meets monthly with a programme of outdoor events. (Indoors if the weather's really bad!) With preparation time, you will need 8-10 hours a month.

Your time

Ten to twelve meetings a year.
All year round

What's in it for you?

This role will provide the satisfaction that you are helping the next generation of conservationist develop and nurture their interest in nature. It will give you the opportunity to enthuse and inspire young people about wildlife, birds, the environment and conservation. The RSPB is an active and exciting conservation charity, the largest in Europe, where we can help you gain skills and give you a valuable insight into our work.
