Rainham Marshes Nature Reserve

What to expect

Rainham Marshes nature reserve in Greater London is an ex-MOD site that acquired by the RSPB in 2000. Located just East of London we set about transforming the reserve into an important place for nature and a great place for people to visit. Now you can expect to see breeding wading birds in spring and summer, and large flocks of wild ducks in winter. Rainham Marshes' onsite meeting rooms offer high quality conference and meeting facilities which can be hired at competitive rates. Combining meetings/training with a team challenge activity delivers a really special event. First class facilities available: visitor centre, café, car parking. The reserve is easily reached by foot from Purfleet train station. Purfleet station is directly accessible from Fenchurch St and West Ham Stations, making it an easy ride from Central London.

All year

The skills and time provided by corporate teams are incredibly valuable to the RSPB. Corporate work parties help us tackle jobs that would otherwise take our wardens days or even weeks to complete. Employee volunteering also helps us to build community links and valuable business support, and many of our business volunteers return to our reserves with family and friends after their volunteer experience. Some even join as members and become life-long supporters.

How you will help us

Help us with our nature conservation work; we have a variety of projects ongoing throughout the year, including clearing the reserve's river banks of rubbish and removing ragwort to benefit breeding waders. Start the day with a presentation introducing you to the reserve and the RSPB, before heading out on your conservation task. Enjoy the afternoon spotting the site's fascinating wildlife with one of our knowledgeable wardens. We can even offer cycling and bouldering activities.
