Every possible sale and new membership is essential for us, as 100% of our profits go to help the RSPB do its amazing conservation work, so encouraging visitors to support us is a vital part of the team's role. You will also help us to keep the shop full and presentable.

The skills you need

We are looking for people who love nature as much as we do to join our team!! You will be full of enthusiasm. A high level of prior knowledge is not necessary, as we can train you in everything else you need for this role. You need to be happy talking to people, eager to learn, and comfortable asking our visitors to support us. You will be representing the RSPB, so being polite, smart and presentable at all times is a must. You will enjoy working as part of a team and have a positive and friendly disposition. Basic computer skills will be helpful in this role, as you will spend time using our till system.

What's in it for you?

The RSPB is the largest conservation charity in Europe, and the work we do is essential for giving the UK's wildlife a home. By becoming a volunteer you will be a part of that organization. You can make the difference to how we are viewed as an organisation and ensure that it is still around for future generations to enjoy. You can help to enthuse the public about what you already love plus every sale or membership you make means we can do more for nature. You will gain new skills, get a valuable insight into the RSPB's work, and will have an amazing chance to work as part of a great team in a beautiful environment. Fairburn Ings is a well established nature reserve near Castleford, East of Leeds. It is on the site of old coal mine workings and is now a haven for birds and other wildlife. Volunteers are a vital part of the way the RSPB works – with around 17,000 to only 1600 members of staff, we couldn't function without you!! Volunteering is an amazing addition to any CV, and if you are looking for a career in conservation, the experience you get from it can open many doors for you. Training will be given in all aspects of this role, including the till and customer service. Uniform will be provided too.
