What we're looking for

Are you passionate about wildlife in your local area, and looking to put your media skills to good use? The RSPB Huntingdonshire Local Group offers the public the opportunity to become involved in, learn about and assist us in our work to save nature. The group runs popular events and activities like indoor talks, outdoor wildlife walks, as well as fundraising and attending local community events. The Local Group are looking for someone to publicise their group activities in the local area. This role could include: - Organising displays, posters and group information in the most effective places e.g.g libraries, community centres, garden centres etc.). - Submitting news to local press and radio contacts. - Exploring other ways of publicising the group and group activities, for example via community websites, via other local organisations/groups such as WI, local gardening groups and fairs/fetes etc.. - Submitting news items to the Eastern England region RSPB media officer for inclusion on regional Facebook and twitter pages. - Looking after the group's social media presence, for example by adding posts to the groups Facebook and Twitter pages, and sharing posts from other appropriate sources. You'd be welcome at local group committee meetings too (although this isn't essential if not possible). These give you an ideal opportunity to discuss the work you have been doing with other enthusiastic volunteers in the group. You'd have loads of support from the group's friendly committee plus staff at the RSPB Eastern England Regional Office. So... what are you waiting for?

The skills you need

To be friendly, enthusiastic and outgoing, and keen to speak to members and the public about the RSPB and the group. You will need to have good organisational skills.

Your time

4-6 hours per month
All year round

Appropriate training will be provided and expenses will be re-imbursed where necessary. The RSPB speaks out for birds and wildlife, tackling the problems that threaten our environment.
