Vacancy type:
Practical conservation, Corporate and employee volunteering
Location:
Pagham Harbour & Medmerry Nature Reserves

What to expect

Our nature reserve at Pagham Harbour is a glorious and recognised wetland site for wildlife encompassed with historical heritage. Resident birds include little egrets, ringed plovers and lapwings. Many migrant bird species pass through this site on their way to and from their wintering grounds and during the summer you can observe lapwings and little terns breeding, dragonflies patrolling the reed beds and lizards basking in the sun. Having taken over the site from West Sussex County Council in 2012, the RSPB maintains the site to not only encourage wildlife to thrive, but to allow local visitors to immerse themselves in nature. Facilities: small visitor centre, toilets, car parking.

Your group

Team Challenges are muddy and energetic, but that's all part of the fun! We will supply all tools and the necessary protective equipment such as gloves. No skills are required, just make sure to bring old clothes, waterproofs, plenty of drinking water and packed lunches. Group size: 7 - 25

Minimum:
1 day
Duration:
10am - 4pm (flexible)
Period:
October - February

The skills and time provided by corporate teams are incredibly valuable to the RSPB. Corporate work parties help us tackle jobs that would otherwise take our wardens days or even weeks to complete. Employee volunteering also helps us to build community links and valuable business support, and many of our business volunteers return to our reserves with family and friends after their volunteer experience. Some even join as members and become life-long supporters.

How you will help us

Help us with our nature conservation work; we have a variety of projects running throughout the year including: restoring reedbeds, bramble bashing and making homes on tern island. All of which have a huge impact for the reserve's wildlife. Start the day with a talk introducing you to the reserve and the RSPB, before heading out on your conservation task. Enjoy the afternoon spotting the site's fascinating wildlife with one of our knowledgeable wardens.
