Visitor Centre Volunteer, Coombes Valley

Tuesday 29 January 2013
Vacancy type:
Publicity and promotional, Showing people wildlife, Helping visitors at our reserves
Coombes & Churnet Valleys

What we're looking for

Do you love talking to people? Do you have an interest in birds and wildlife? If so, we would love to hear from you. We have a small visitor centre and are looking for people to chat to and enthuse visitors about this beautiful reserve and the inspiring things they can see here. We like to make sure there's a friendly face to greet all our visitors between 9 am and 5 pm every day, so if you're able to commit for a whole day, that would be fantastic. However, if you're able to offer only a morning or afternoon, we'd still love to hear from you. To ensure visitors get a great experience, we also need to ensure our visitor facilities are kept clean and tidy, and we'd ask you to help do this as part of your role.

The skills you need

We're looking for pro-active, outgoing, friendly people with the ability and knowledge to enthuse people about birds and other wildlife, as well as the work of the RSPB.

Your time

1 day per week preferable, but less often will be considered
All year, but mainly spring and summer

What's in it for you?

As well as making a difference to a local nature reserve in beautiful surroundings, this is a great opportunity to meet people from a wide variety of backgrounds and to work as part of a small, friendly team. Our Visitor Centre Volunteers will get a buzz from providing a friendly welcome and will have the opportunity, if they wish, to receive training in how to recruit members to gain further support for our work, but this is dependent on the individual.

How to apply

Appropriate training will be provided and expenses will be re-imbursed where necessary. Your time and skills could make a real difference to the work of the RSPB and it would be great if you could join us. We welcome volunteers of all ages in the RSPB; however for this particular role, we do not have the staffing capacity to accommodate volunteers under the age of 18. This is due to not being able to meet the safeguarding requirements set out in the RSPB Safeguarding policy. Do keep an eye on the RSPB volunteer pages for any future vacancies'.
