Vacancy type:
Office and administration
Location:
Rye Meads

What we're looking for

The RSPB is built upon a foundation of skilled and knowledgeable volunteers and these volunteers need to be supported. At Rye Meads we have a large and varied team of volunteers and we are looking for someone to be the first point of contact for them. The role would involve recruiting and inducting new volunteers as well as supporting current volunteers and managing the administrative tasks that are associated with our volunteer team. You will help us ensure all volunteers have a rewarding and enjoyable time whilst volunteering with the RSPB.

The skills you need

To be successful in the role you would need to have an outgoing, friendly and approachable personality, excellent organisational and communication skills, and an ability to inspire and motivate others and work as part of a team. A good level of IT literacy is required as the role will involve working with databases and Microsoft Office. A diplomatic and positive attitude would also be valued in the role. An enthusiasm for, and knowledge of, birds and other wildlife would be beneficial but is not essential as this role provides a great opportunity to develop your wildlife knowledge. You will need to be willing to undertake compulsory training in order to be successful in the role and to comply with RPSB policy.

Your time

Minimum:
Minimum of 1 day per week (2 half days a week preferable)
Duration:
Ongoing
Period:
All year round

What's in it for you?

Volunteering in this role is fantastic opportunity to be part of a friendly team, meet like-minded people, make new friends, learn new skills or consolidate existing ones, as well as volunteer on one of our beautiful nature reserves – we're famous for our excellent views of Kingfishers! This role also provides a wonderful opportunity to make a genuine contribution to wildlife conservation where you will gain a valuable insight into the workings of Europe's largest conservation charity. One of the best things about becoming our Volunteer Coordinator is the flexibility of the role. We need someone to volunteer for a minimum of 1 day a week but this could be split into two half days and occasionally undertaken from home. Of course we'd be thrilled if you were able to commit to more than one day a week.

Notes

Just as you will be coordinating and supporting a team of volunteers we will also be supporting you in your role, by providing you with assistance and any training or development you may need to carry out the role successfully. As you will be giving up your time, it's only fair that we offer to reimburse your travel expenses and other expenses where necessary and appropriate. The RSPB is the UK charity working to secure a healthy environment for birds and wildlife, helping to create a better world for all of us. We belong to Birdlife International, the global partnership of bird conservation organisations. Your time and skills could make a real difference to the work of the RSPB and it would be great if you could join us.
