Corporate Team Challenge - Mawddach Valley

Wednesday 18 August 2010
Vacancy type:
Practical conservation, Corporate and employee volunteering
Mawddach Reserve

What to expect

At Mawddach Valley we need to keep on top of the conifer trees that keep appearing. If left to mature, these non-native trees would take over areas of the reserve and prevent specialist wildlife from being able to survive. Volunteers will be directly helping to improve the conditions for nightjars and tree pipits by helping us cut down the seedlings up by hand. If we used heavy machinery for the job there's a chance we might disturb the important wildlife we are working to protect!

Your group

We will provide all necessary tools, materials and protective items (PPE). Please bring appropriate clothing for the time of year – sun hats and sun cream plus lots of water to drink if hot and extra layers and waterproofs during the colder months. Please also wear stout boots or shoes. You are covered by our comprehensive public liability insurance and we provide risk assessments and a safety briefing prior to the start of your day. A warden will be with you at all times and there will always be at least one first aider close-at-hand throughout the day.

September to March

The skills and time provided by corporate teams are incredibly valuable to the RSPB. Corporate work parties help us tackle jobs that would otherwise take our wardens days or even weeks to complete. Employee volunteering also helps us to build community links and valuable business support, and many of our business volunteers return to our reserves with family and friends after their volunteer experience. Some even join as members and become life-long supporters.

How you will help us

If you're looking for a novel idea for your organisation's team away day then look no further that RSPB Cymru's nature reserves. We offer an unusual and cost-effective alternative to the myriad of outdoor corporate challenge days now on offer. You may become wardens for a day or get involved in some unusual activities to raise funds or to further the RSPB's objectives. A great way to promote teamwork, boost morale and make a positive contribution to the environment and the local community.
