What we're looking for

We hold a number of public events at Pagham Harbour ranging from fetes and family trails to bird walks. They all play a vital part in raising funds and public awareness of the work that goes on at the reserve and the RSPB. Your role, as a volunteer event helper, would be to help us ensure our events run smoothly and safely. Tasks include: Event preparation •erecting marquees •setting up for the day's activities •distributing posters to advertise events in the local community At the events themselves •giving visitors a warm welcome •helping with activities on the day e.g.. running crafts and stalls, serving refreshments, back marking walks etc.) •marshalling •clearing up at the end of the day.

The skills you need

Essential: •Outgoing, friendly, great people skills •Ability to enthuse visitors about nature and Pagham Harbour •Great organizational skills •Able to work as part of a small team. Desirable: •An interest in the work of a Nature Reserve •An interest in environmental education.

Your time

Minimum:
Up to 15 events per year
Duration:
Ongoing with events being run at a various times
Period:
All year around

Notes

You'll receive initial and ongoing support provided along with: •A full induction with the Visitor Services Warden before starting in role, which covers health and safety, general introduction to the reserve, relevant procedures etc •A chance to shadow an experienced event volunteer in order to build confidence •A copy of the RSPB volunteer handbook •An invite to our annual volunteer social at the reserve – a chance to meet the team, other Pagham Harbour volunteers, and for staff to say a big 'thank you'! •The RSPB would reimburse you for all out- of- pocket expenses, invite you to volunteer thank you events, send you copies of our bi-annual volunteer newsletter, and give you ongoing support in your role.
