Reserve Work Party, Hodbarrow

Monday 13 November 2017
Vacancy type:
Practical conservation

What we're looking for

A team of volunteers is required on our Hodbarrow reserve in Millom. You will assist the warden in undertaking the habitat management and estate maintenance on the reserve, e.g.. scrub coppicing, path clearance, litter picking, maintenance of hide and signs

The skills you need

You will need a basic level of physical fitness and be able to access areas over wet and rough ground. You will enjoy working out doors and be able to work in sometimes cold and wet weather conditions. Most tasks are fairly simple, e.g.. cutting with bowsaw and loppers, so an enthusiasm for the work is most important

Your time

All year round

What's in it for you?

You will have the satisfaction of undertaking essential work on this beautiful site overlooking the Lake District Fells and the Duddon Estuary. You will be benefitting the nationally important nature on the site. You will learn the essentials of habitat management of grassland and scrub and will see the benefits of your work during the summer months as the habitat you have created fills with birds, flowers and insects.
