What we're looking for

Visitors come from far and wide to experience the iconic wildlife of Strumpshaw Fen, from Bitterns to Swallowtail Butterflies. We need you to... - Help us provide a welcome service for visitors to this amazing reserve and enhance their experience - Excite people about nature and show them wildlife up close. - Meet and greet in our reception hide, talking to visitors, taking entry payment and handing out visitor surveys. - Tell stories, engage people about our campaigns and recruit new members to the RSPB. - Assist with the running of our self service catering offer.

The skills you need

Our Visitor Information Volunteer Assistants need to be excellent with people, have a friendly disposition, be fun, be enthusiastic about the work of the RSPB, birds, wildlife and the beautiful Norfolk Broads. Some natural or local history or conservation knowledge would be an advantage, but a willingness to learn is essential. Familiarity with customer care, sales and retail experience would be an advantage, but not essential.

A site induction and customer service training must be attended as well as appropriate training for the role including membership recruitment. Expenses will be reimbursed where necessary. Help at weekends is particularly useful. The RSPB works for a healthy environment rich in birds and wildlife. It relies on the support and generosity of volunteers to make a difference. The RSPB is the UK Partner of the global federation of conservation organisations, Birdlife International. We rely upon memberships and donations to fund our work. By volunteering your time and skills you could make a real difference to the work of the RSPB.
