Vacancy type:
Office and administration
Location:
Belfast

What we're looking for

We need an enthusiastic and target driven individual to help us grow our pin badge scheme in Northern Ireland raising vital funds to support our local work in the community. The pin badge scheme is our core source of community fundraising income and helps to fund local projects such as habitat management on our reserves and our work with schools and colleges through our Youth and Education team. Realistically, the more money raised through Community Fundraising, the more work we can do here in Northern Ireland! We need someone with a positive attitude and excellent written and verbal communication skills who feels comfortable working alone in researching potential new host sites for our pin badge boxes. You will then be tasked with contacting these potential new sites with the view to place a pin badge box there after which you will ensure that the relevant documentation is sent out to the host site in accordance with current Institute of Fundraising guidelines and collate the information in a spreadsheet. You will have weekly meetings with the Community Fundraising Officer who, along with one other member of staff, will be on hand to provide the training you need and to support you throughout your placement.

The skills you need

Good telephone manner and communication skills, both verbal and written. Confident and outgoing. Ability to use initiative and work alone to research potential new host sites. Driving Licence and access to your own car. Good basic computer skills – the role will require a considerable amount of work with Excel. Previous excel experience is not necessary but would be a bonus. Good analytical skills – ability to assess, based on feedback and current income knowledge, which locations are the most profitable. Ability to work to targets calmly and in a structured manner.

Your time

Minimum:
2 or 3 days per week
Duration:
Ongoing
Period:
All year round

What's in it for you?

An opportunity to develop your business and sales skills by being part of a successful team working to deliver important fundraising targets to enhance RSPBs work in Northern Ireland. You will have the opportunity to gain experience working in a busy office environment while achieving personal targets which will translate to essential income to support our work. This role would suit someone keen to gain experience working in an office environment with an interest in sales and customer service. There may also be additional opportunities to help at community fundraising events should the candidate wish to also gain experience in event management and working with volunteers although the primary focus of this role will be to grow the pin badge scheme. Whilst there is never any guarantee of paid employment following a period of volunteering, the community fundraising department is always looking for self motivated people to join its team. Volunteer travel expenses (up to a limit) will be reimbursed.
