What we're looking for

The RSPB Sandwell Valley Community Forum contributes towards the success of the nature reserve by providing relevant guidance, advice and ideas towards the ongoing development of the reserve and its activities, in relation to the local community. It plays a key role in ensuring that RSPB Sandwell Valley remains engaged with and relevant to its local community. We are looking for new forum members to contribute to this work. This will involve: • Attending community forum meetings every 2 months. • Advising on how the reserve can remain engaged with and relevant to the local community. • Acting as a champion for, and raising awareness of, the reserve amongst the local community. • Supporting, giving advice on and monitoring the progress of community projects, including funding sources. • Networking with the local community and other groups. • Attending some events on reserve to engage with community and gather feedback • Contributing to the promotion of the community forum and recruitment of forum members

The skills you need

The community forum is open to anyone who uses RSPB Sandwell Valley and who is interested in helping connect more people to nature. We're looking for dynamic and reliable individuals who are passionate about connecting people to nature. If you are a creative but realistic thinker, with good people skills, this may be the role for you. You will need to be comfortable contributing to group discussions and approaching members of the community. Having links with the local community in and around Sandwell Valley / having an understanding of environmental conservation is desirable but not essential.

Your time

Minimum:
6 meetings a year (you will be required to attend most of these). The role may also require some other work outside of these meetings, on a flexible basis.

By being a voice for the local community, you will ensure it is represented in the running of your local RSPB nature reserve You will be part of a friendly team of like-minded people and get a chance to develop transferable skills such as decision making, networking and team work. Forum members will have the opportunity to take on more responsibilities if they wish. The chairperson, vice-chair and secretary are appointed amongst forum members for two year terms. You will get an insight into the work of the RSPB, Europe's largest conservation organisation and see how the nature reserve is run and managed for both wildlife and people.
