What we're looking for

Our winter work parties are vital to carry out essential habitat management in Wolves Wood, near Ipswich to keep these ancient woods at their best for wildlife. We would love you to be a part of it. We have a friendly bunch of volunteers, who help with the tasks such as cutting and clearing the rides to benefit butterflies, and helping with coppicing of some of the trees and scrub to benefit the woodland flora and songbirds, along with any necessary repairs to bridges, paths and ditches. All tasks are crucial for conservation of the site.

The skills you need

So long as you're able to walk a few hundred metres on uneven and sometimes wet or slippery ground and use hand tools of various sorts, or are willing to learn how to use hand tools, you have all the skills you'll need! You will need to be happy working outdoors in all weathers, and enjoy working as part of a team.

This is a great opportunity to help with reserve habitat management, become part of a small team, meet like-minded people, and learn about the running of the reserve. An excellent chance to really get up close and personal with a very special piece of ancient woodland, which is also a site of special scientific interest. and to make a genuine contribution to wildlife conservation. The opportunity to learn new skills - the intention is to share knowledge and learn whilst working in these lovely woods. Appropriate training and tools will be provided, and since you'll be giving up your time, it's only fair that we offer to re-imburse your travel expenses (up to 25 miles).
