What we're looking for

Would you like to be part of a new RSPB venture at this busy tourist hot spot? This summer we are trialling a RSPB base at Wroxham Barns and are looking for friendly, outgoing volunteers to greet visitors, help with family activities and chat to local people and holiday makers about the work of the RSPB and the fabulous widlife of the Broads. Recruiting new members helps fund everything we do at the RSPB, from nature protection to creating magnificent wild spaces for people to enjoy. In this role, you will be helping to ask people for their support, and directing them on to RSPB staff if they are keen to find out more about membership.

The skills you need

We need enthusiastic people of all ages who have a ready smile and like a chat. You'll enjoy striking up conversations, helping with family activities, telling stories and passing on your passion for nature. You do not need to be an expert on birds or wildlife. You do need to be friendly and approachable so visitors feel they can easily talk to you. It is essential that you are keen to learn more about the RSPB and our work in the Broads, are able to represent us in a professional manner, and are keen to inspire people, especially families, about wildlife.

Your time

Minimum:
Half a day minimum, at least once a month
Duration:
Ongoing
Period:
Easter holidays, half terms and Summer holidays

What's in it for you?

This is an excellent opportunity to meet people and inspire them about nature, whilst making a genuine contribution to conservation. You will become a valued member of a friendly and dynamic team with a strong local focus. We will be offering you the opportunity to use and develop your communication skills, help plan and deliver family activities and gain a real insight into the largest conservation organisation in Europe. We provide informal training, ongoing support and all the information that you need to carry out this role. And you should have good fun too!

Notes

It would be great if you will live in the local area, but reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed. You should be available to help for at least half a day, once a month. Attendance is on a rota basis. Your time and talent will make a real difference to the work of the RSPB and to conservation. Nature is amazing – help us keep it that way.
