What we're looking for

Do you want to make a difference to conservation in Scotland? Would you like to inspire the next generation and wow people with the amazing wildlife we have right here in Dumfries and Galloway? We are looking for Events and Membership Volunteers to help our staff out and about in Dumfries and Galloway. You will be supporting the Dumfries & Galloway team by wowing the public with amazing stories and wildlife in the area, helping out at fun family activities, encouraging people to Give Nature a Home themselves, and gather that all important support for the RSPB by helping to make new members and retaining our existing supporters. The RSPB relies on new and continued support from members of the public and the membership team work hard to create exciting events and themes that will inspire visitors to become part of the RSPB. We need you to be part of our team to help deliver these events and to talk about the amazing conservation work the RSPB is doing.

The skills you need

You'll be a friendly and outgoing person who is confident initiating conversations with the public. An interest in conservation and wildlife will be essential. We are looking for someone who is self-reliant and able to get on with the job at hand. You may be required to work on your own for short periods of time. Some knowledge of UK wildlife species would be welcome but there is no need to be an expert. A willingness to learn and take on unfamiliar tasks will be useful, as well as being flexible and adaptable in regards to plans/weather/events equipment - we will regularly be working outdoors. Experience of working with young families - your own counts! This role will require you to handle small amounts of petty cash and assist with filling in basic forms.

Your time

Minimum:
2 weekends or 4 days per month. Hours will usually be 9 - 5 per day with a lunch break but may vary from event to event. Weekends can be split over the month.

Before you begin in this role we would like to set up a short informal interview at a time to suit you. Appropriate training will be provided and expenses will be re-imbursed where necessary.
