Learning Assistant to help in delivering environmental education at CAFRE Greenmount Campus and Belfast Reserve

What we're looking for

Our School Learning Outside the Classroom programmes at CAFRE, Greenmount give children and young people the chance to experience nature first-hand through fun activities such as pond dipping, mini-beast hunting and nature detecting. Our programmes are linked to the National Curriculum and are fully risk assessed. Outdoor Learning Volunteers help us deliver our Learning Outside the Classroom programmes at CAFRE, Greenmount. You will support the RSPB Field Teachers as they lead school groups along our Nature Trail at Greenmount. Your role will involve engaging with the pupils and helping to inspire them about nature. You will assist with the supervision of the school groups and encourage positive behaviour. At the beginning and end of the the visit you will support the Field Teachers with the preparation of resources for activities and the setting up and tidying up of equipment.

The skills you need

You enjoy being outdoors. You can engage with children of all ages, with diverse needs and learning levels. You have a reasonable level of fitness (walking for periods of up to 2 hours). You have an interest in the natural world. (CAFRE, Greenmount is not on a direct public transport route so access to own transport may be required.)

Your time

Availability from 1 to 5 days a week in school term time Sept - November, March-June
During school terms, Autumn and Spring
