We are very proud of our nature reserve, and of the team who make the reserve what it is. We have a welcome building too, but what makes a good welcome centre a great one, is people like you!

What we're looking for

Hello! We are very proud of our Ham Wall nature reserve and of the team who make the reserve a stunning mixture of reed beds, wet scrub and open water for people to enjoy. It's a wildlife haven throughout the year including booming bitterns, stunning starlings and dazzling dragonflies. We have a welcome building and car park too, making it a wonderful place for everyone to visit, but what makes a good welcome centre a great one, is people like you who can bring the personal touch and make a visitor's day with a smile. As well as a friendly welcome, you will be providing information to the visitors about Ham Wall, it's wildlife and promoting our up and coming events and how visitors can get involved with the reserve and RSPB. You will be selling refreshments too as our visitors can enjoy a welcome cuppa. You will also be opening and closing the Visitor Welcome building and making sure that it is looking good.

The skills you need

Don't worry you don't need to be a wildlife expert! All you need is confidence, a smile and a passion for sharing your enthusiasm for wildlife, Ham Wall and the RSPB and making sure everyone who visits has a great experience.

What's in it for you?

Well, as Caroline, one of our volunteers says, 'It's the opportunity to be in a stunning location, away from everything and being able to share my love of Ham Wall with everyone who passes by our marvellous new welcome building.' You will be part of the great Ham Wall team of volunteers and staff and if you like meeting new people then this is the role for you. We will train you in everything you need to know, from the wildlife to the work of the RSPB and so it's a great opportunity to learn more about Ham Wall and its wildlife too.
