What we're looking for

RSPB local groups are community based groups, run entirely by volunteers, that promote the aims and objectives of the RSPB in the local community. They offer RSPB members and the public the opportunity to become involved in, learn about and assist the organisation in its work to save nature. They run events and activities like indoor talks and outdoor walks/wildlife watching trips. They also fundraise and campaign for the RSPB and attend local community events to further enthuse and inspire people to support the RSPB. North East London local group needs someone to support our campaign work – we cannot stress enough what a huge difference signatures on petitions, pledge cards etc, really does make. Such a groundswell of support gives us a very loud voice when it comes to lobbying for lasting change for birds, wildlife and the environment. You will: • maintain awareness of issues on which the RSPB is campaigning, and local developments affecting nature. • each month, recommend an issue where support by the local group could be effective. • co-ordinate this support, for example by explaining issues and proposed actions at indoor meetings, organising members to attend RSPB lobbies, writing summaries for the group newsletter or monthly email. • liaise with RSPB campaign co-ordinators where appropriate.

The skills you need

• Enthusiastic about, and with good understanding of, conservation issues and the goals of the RSPB • Good at communicating the issues and motivating people to get involved. • We're looking for a friendly and enthusiastic individual to champion the RSPB's campaigns within the local group area. • You need to be keen about raising awareness and building support for our campaign work.

Your time

5-6 committee meetings and 8 talks evenings per year, plus 1-2 hours per week research and correspondence
All year round

What's in it for you?

• Satisfaction of knowing you are helping to defend nature. • Working as part of a team in a successful and active local group. • Improve your knowledge of key issues that affect our natural world by volunteering with the largest environmental charity in Europe! • You get to play an integral part in making a real difference to birds, wildlife and the environment.
