Tuesday 13 March 2018
Vacancy type:
Residential volunteering, Internships
Leighton Moss and Morecambe Bay

What we're looking for

With over 120,000 visitors a year, Leighton Moss is a very busy site. We aim to deliver first class customer care at all times, as well as providing an outstanding home for wildlife. There's so much to discover at Leighton Moss. We are looking an enthusiastic, out-going individual with proven experience of delivering high standards of visitor facing customer care, to work with our visitor experience manager. The role holder will have excellent people skills with an infectious ability to enthuse and inspire our visitors through face to face engagement and a range of media channels.

The skills you need

Good people and communication skills and an approachable personality are essential for this role, as is the ability to work as part of a small team. You will also be adaptable, self-motivated and ready and willing to turn your hand to the multitude of different tasks that are required on a nature reserve. Specialist knowledge is not necessary, but an enthusiasm for wildlife and an interest in conservation is. You must be happy working outdoors in all weathers and confident talking to visitors. This role will include some manual handling. You must be aged 18 and a full driving licence is desirable. Weekend working is an essential part of the role but time off will be given during the week. For more information or an application form, contact Jon Carter. Closing date is 12 noon on Tuesday 3rd April. Interviews will be held at Leighton Moss. Date to be confirmed.

During your stay in our accommodation on the reserve, you will become a full member of the reserve team. You will gain invaluable experience in visitor and people engagement, management of a popular RSPB visitor centre and working with a dedicated team of staff and volunteers.

Our internships are designed to offer work experience. However, doing an internship does not, unfortunately, guarantee future employment with the RSPB. Interns are welcome to apply for our paid vacancies, but for obvious reasons, an intern would need to have proven themselves in their current role before their volunteering experience will assist an application for a paid post. Appropriate training will be provided and pre-arranged expenses will be re-imbursed where necessary.
