What we're looking for

We are looking for enthusiastic, outgoing volunteers to become part of our Family Events Volunteer Team. Like the A-Team for nature... You will be part of a team who will inspire the public about nature, facilitate valuable connections to the natural world, and engage people in the conservation work that we do, through public engagement and community events. This varied role involves attending and helping to deliver family activities at events across Edinburgh and the Lothian's; from pond dipping at Bio-blitzes and creative hands on activities at the Edinburgh Science Festival, to facilitating self led activities at national shows, such as Royal Highland Show or Gardening Scotland. You will be working with RSPB staff members (and sometimes on your own) where you will be helping to run engaging activities for families and children. We also have a fantastic partnership with The Helix Park in Falkirk, where we often run a number of family events. This team will be helping to deliver activities from pond dipping and bug hunting to self led activities and specific events at this great location throughout the year.

The skills you need

- Ability and confidence to engage with children and families. - Enthusiasm for wildlife conservation and a passion for wildlife. - Experience in working with children (desired) Your time This role is flexible as our events are usually on weekends and at different locations and times across Edinburgh and the Lothian's. We want you to be part of a flexible and fun team who can be called on when we organise an event. Like the A-Team for nature... Are you that person!?

Your time

We'd like our volunteers to be able to commit to a minimum of 4 events a year
All year round, busy periods in summer

What's in it for you?

This will be a great opportunity to gain valuable skills in outdoor education, people engagement and experience working with children and families. You will also get to work alongside our friendly and dedicated education, families and membership teams. You will be able to get out and about, meet new people and promote the RSPB, whilst gaining a valuable insight into our work. Our staff and volunteers love seeing children's faces light up when they discover something new about nature. There is also opportunity for you to help with idea development and create some great family activities.
