What we're looking for

We're looking for enthusiastic and friendly individuals to support our visitor centre staff. We want people visiting RSPB Dungeness to be welcomed with a smile and have an enjoyable visit. We aim to enthuse them about the RSPB and nature and so encourage them to support the RSPB by purchasing from our reserve shop or by becoming a member. Your time here will be spent in the visitor centre in the reception area and shop. The role involves meeting and greeting visitors to the reserve, providing information on the reserve and how individuals can support us through becoming a member, till operation and money handling, and advising customers on shop products. This role will suit someone who loves to meet and talk to visitors and who would gain satisfaction from helping customers. By volunteering in the RSPB Dungeness visitor centre, you will help us present the RSPB in a friendly and professional manner. This will increase both visitors' enjoyment and our income for the benefit of wildlife conservation. If you are a great 'people person' and have some time to spare this could be the role for you!

The skills you need

-To enjoy working with people and being part of a team -Confidence to communicate well with members of the public -Enthusiasm for wildlife and conservation and to turn that into new members -You will need to be confident in handling money, be accurate, reliable and friendly as well as being presentable -A willingness to learn about the different product ranges sold by the RSPB which include telescopes, binoculars and bird care products in order to be able to advise and sell to customers -Basic computer skills would be helpful as they are needed for operation of the till but training will be provided -Willingness to learn and use basic sales techniques - Familiarity with customer care and retail experience an advantage, but not essential
