Visitor Ambassador

Vacancy type:
Helping visitors at our reserves
Wallasea Island Wild Coast Project

What we're looking for

Do you love talking to people and sharing your enthusiasm for wildlife and your local nature reserves? We need Visitor Ambassadors to greet visitors and ensure a great visitor experience. You'll be a friendly face representing the RSPB and an information point for visitors. You'll be talking to people about our amazing work and inspiring them to support us and take action for nature. We are interested in the views of our visitors and would like you to conduct simple surveys from time to time. Gathering this information will help the RSPB to better tailor our offer to meet visitor expectations. RSPB Wallasea Island is open every day except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day so if you could spare from one day a fortnight we would love to hear from you. RSPB membership really is the lifeblood of the Society and underpins every single thing we do. It helps us fund nature conservation work here and across the UK - not only the ongoing land management of our reserves but also by creating and enhancing magnificent wild spaces for nature and people to enjoy. It is therefore important that you can inspire people about the work we do and warm them up to the idea of membership.

The skills you need

The biggest part of the role is talking to people; building rapport and sharing your enthusiasm for Wallasea Island and its nature, therefore you will need good people skills and be willing to approach and talk to a wide range of different people. It is important to be approachable, friendly, and be able to enthuse about the work of the RSPB. You don't have to be an expert. You simply need a genuine interest in birds, wildlife and conservation.

Your time

Minimum 1 day a fortnight
all year round

What's in it for you?

This is your chance to be a part of one of the most ambitious habitat creation projects that RSPB has ever tackled, and exciting times for the reserve lie ahead. This is a great opportunity to be a public face of the RSPB, talk to people and gain valuable people engagement skills. You will be part of a friendly team and be supported by the Visitor Experience Manager and the Warden team. By volunteering your time and skills, you could make a real difference to the work of the RSPB and the Wallasea Island Project. We have no doubt that there will be some great wildlife to be seen too!
