What we're looking for

Your role will be to support our practical conservation staff on the two Reserves in Surrey and NE Hampshire, based near Farnham in Surrey. You will focus on habitat management, reserve maintenance, wildlife surveys and public engagement events. You will be helping the RSPB to maintain vital lowland heathland at Farnham and Hazeley, as well as managing areas of flower rich grassland at Farnham and woodland rides at Hazeley Regular duties will include: • Assisting with managing lowland heath. • Scrub management. • Assisting with the development of woodland rides. • Helping to manage grassland • Making repairs to our site infrastructure such as benches, gates and fences. • Removing invasive species. • Leading volunteer work parties. • Maintaining reserves equipment. • Taking part in wildlife surveys. • Helping with guided walks. • Producing temporary notices and other interpretation • Checking livestock Inductions/relevant training for each task will be given beforehand and ongoing support provided by the warden and assistant warden

The skills you need

Essential: •Can commit to three days a week for six months minimum •Strong work ethic •Ability to work proactively and to show initiative. •Organised with attention to detail •Confident meeting new people and representing the charity •Ability to work on own and within a team •Prepared to get stuck in to a range of practical tasks, some of which require full days outdoors in all weather and can involve lifting equipment plus carrying goods and long spells walking •Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn new skills Desirable: •Some DIY, basic outdoor skills or knowledge of machinery would be advantageous, although full training will be given RSPB runs an inclusive volunteer internship scheme, so whether you have just graduated, finished your A Levels and looking for voluntary experience in your gap year or you are looking for a change of career paths we welcome your application. However, we do ask that you meet the following requirements: You must: •Be 18 years old or over •Have a full clean driving licence •Have achieved A-levels or equivalent •Be confident using MS Word, Excel, Outlook

All the training necessary and background information will be provided and since you'll be giving up your time, it's only fair that we offer to reimburse your travel expenses (up to 25 miles).
