What we're looking for

We are looking to recruit a team of volunteers to help us engage school children and families in outdoor based activities here at RSPB Lakenheath Fen. This is ever more important for health and well-being as modern life becomes increasing reliant on technology and it is vital for nature conservation in the future. Activities will include pond dipping, minibeast hunting, guided walks and leading family activities on the reserve.

The skills you need

Enthusiasm for connecting children to nature. Ability to stay calm when there's a bit of pressure. Good time keeping and organisational skills. Ability to run an activity according to RSPB guidelines. Willing and able to work outdoors in all weathers. Able to be on your feet, ready to do anything. Experience of working with children and families. Basic nature knowledge.

Your time

1 Once or twice a month
All year round

What's in it for you?

Great experience and on the job training in environmental education. Working in a friendly, like minded team of RSPB staff and volunteers. Gaining an understanding of why connecting children to nature is so important. The opportunity to try out these activities for yourself, have a great time, and learn along with families. The RSPB is an active and exciting conservation charity. We can help you gain skills and give you a valuable insight into our work.
