What we're looking for

RSPB membership really is the lifeblood of the Society and underpins every single thing we do. It helps us fund nature conservation work at Pulborough Brooks and across the UK – not only the ongoing land management of our reserves but also by creating and enhancing magnificent wild spaces for nature and people to enjoy. We are expanding our membership recruitment team at Pulborough Brooks and are looking for volunteers who would enjoy enthusing visitors to join the RSPB as members. Our busiest times are 10am to 2pm weekdays and 11am to 3.0 pm weekends so we're looking for volunteers to help us during these periods. Some flexibility to volunteer during holidays when staffing may be lower would also be fantastic! Your role would include: •Providing a warm welcome to all our reserve visitors, •Promoting the work of the RSPB and Pulborough Brooks nature reserve, *Inspiring people to support their local reserve and the RSPB by joining as members, •Actively encouraging visitors to join the RSPB, •Following procedures to set up new memberships including talking people through our membership pack, •Handling bank and other payment details, including taking payment for membership, nature trail entries, which would require using a till, •Helping existing members with their membership enquiries, •Assisting visitors to the reserve with their general enquiries Training: full training and and ongoing support will be given regarding RSPB membership policy including procedures, customer approach, form filling and use of the till and money handling. We'd also need you to complete our short online GDPR ( Data Protection) training annually and attend safeguard training to follow our safety procedures for the safety and welfare of children and vulnerable adults.

The skills you need

Essential: •A positive, approachable, engaging and friendly attitude. •Confidence to initiate and direct conversations. •Some sales experience and the ability to influence visitors to join the RSPB as members. •An infectious enthusiasm for nature and conservation. •Able to communicate with a wide variety of people. Desirable: •Previous experience of processing membership information. •Previous experience of handling direct debit payments and processing credit/ debit card or handling cash payments.

Minimum:

Full induction and training will be provided along with ongoing support in your role. We'd also reimburse any out of pocket travel expenses you incur whilst volunteering.
