Vacancy type:
Helping visitors at our reserves
Fairburn Ings

What we're looking for

We believe that nature is for everyone and we need friendly enthusiastic people to help us to welcome every visitor to the Aire Valley. As the first point of contact, you will meet and greet people as they enter the reserves, give visitors a great welcome, identify their interests and help them to get the most from their visit. You will help to provide visitors with all the information that they need, letting them know what nature they can see and any activities that they can participate in. Through conversations you will inspire and encourage support for the RSPB through membership, volunteering or donations, so that we can continue to give nature a home and thank and continue to enthuse existing members for the support they give. You will promote, educate and inspire the public about the conservation work the RSPB does locally and nationally and share our success stories. You will also help to explain our Covid safety arrangements to help everyone to have a safe visit. You will usually be outside and may be based in or around the car park, alongside membership staff, or immediately outside the Visitor Centre.

The skills you need

You do not need to be a wildlife expert or birdwatcher, what's important is that you have an interest in and can engage with people and get them enthusiastic about nature. You will be able to positively interact with people of all ages and backgrounds. You will be keen and able to assist people to get the most from their visit and be comfortable in asking for support for the RSPB. You will be happy to work outside and willing to pitch in and help across the team.

Your time

half day per week - especially at weekends and during busy times
Largly Easter to September & other busy times

What's in it for you?

You will be joining a great team working for nature in the Aire Valley, meeting new people, gaining experience and learning new things. The opportunity to be part of the country's largest nature conservation charity. We also provide training for the role and induction to the Aire Valley and RSPB and you will be able to access a comprehensive development programme run for our volunteers. You will be given all the support you need to undertake your role.
