What we're looking for

We are looking for someone passionate about wildlife and their local area to help us run the events and deliver a truly fantastic visitor experience at Bowling Green Marsh! We run a whole variety of events every year, including guided walks, avocet boat cruises, family events, camping events (as part of our national Big Wild Sleep Out) and many more. We need your help to publicize these great events, through methods such as uploading them to “what's on guides”, putting up posters in the local area, and by linking with partners. You will help manage our own webpage by maintaining and keeping our events calendar up to date and, if you wish, assisting with our social media pages. We will also need you to keep our events database up-to-date, by inputting event information and feedback received after events, helping us to make sure our events have maximum impact! Our conservation work relies on generating support through fundraising and membership recruitment. Within these events, we want you to have an eye to spot opportunities to ask for support, and be comfortable talking to people about RSPB membership.

The skills you need

We are looking for someone who is outgoing, enthusiastic and willing to get stuck in! You'll need to be happy to engage with a wide public audience and age range and have good people and communication skills. You do not need to have assisted with or run events previously; being happy to get stuck in and having good people skills are more valuable to us. You also don't need to be an expert on wildlife. You will be given full training to ensure you feel confident delivering your role. You'll also need to be a good communicator, happy to pick up the phone or write emails when needed. Some manual handling will be involved with setting up events (you will not be expected to do this alone) so you will need to be comfortable with this.

Your time

Minimum:
Spring/Summer – 1 day a week (evening and weekend work possible) Autumn/Winter - 1 day every fortnight
Duration:
Ongoing
Period:
All year round

What's in it for you?

You will gain lots of experience working with a wide public audience, providing a great opportunity for you to develop your public speaking, event planning and event delivery skills. You will gain intimate knowledge of the RSPB and how we, alongside our partners, manage the landscape for both people and wildlife. As part of the events work, you will be working directly on some of the most wildlife rich and stunning sites in Devon. In addition, by being part of a friendly team, you'll be well supported throughout, meet like-minded people and have the opportunity to get involved in other aspects of our teams' work.
