What we're looking for

RSPB Sandwell Valley is an enchanting urban green space located in the middle of a vibrant and diverse community. We have a group of young volunteers (13 to 18 year-olds) who contribute to keeping the reserve in great shape for both people and wildlife. This group not only enables young people to make a difference in wildlife conservation, it also allows them to learn new skills, be active, gain confidence and have fun. We need adult volunteers to lead the group, ensuring it remains a safe, welcoming and fun space for teenagers. You will work as a team with other leaders to plan, organise and deliver the sessions, ensuring RSPB policies are followed.

The skills you need

We are looking for an enthusiastic people person, who can relate to young people. You will need to be comfortable working with 13 to 18 year-olds, and be able to motivate and inspire them. Previous experience of working with young people or children would be beneficial. Responsible and reliable, you will be able to work in a small team and take the initiative when needed. You need to be able to understand and apply Health and Safety policies. An enthusiasm for the natural world / the outdoors is also important. If you have some knowledge of wildlife or environmental conservation, it's great! If you don't though, don't worry: we can help you pick this up after you start.

Your time

Minimum:
One Saturday a month
Duration:
Ongoing
Period:
All year round

What's in it for you?

You will be making a meaningful difference in the life of young people by empowering and enabling them to volunteer. You will be working in a beautiful green space teeming with wildlife and be part of a friendly team of like-minded people. You will gain valuable skills and experience, including youth engagement, communication, organisational, leadership and practical outdoor skills. You will receive one-to-one support and have opportunities to learn and develop if you wish to. You will also have a valuable experience of working with an environmental charity.
