What we're looking for

With over 100,000 visitors a year, Bempton Cliffs is a very busy reserve. We aim to deliver first class customer care at all times, as well as giving an outstanding home to nature. We are looking for someone to provide a warm welcome to all our visitors, providing them with the information they need to make the most of their visit. We need you to be able to enthuse people about wildlife and the RSPB, and actively encourage non-members to join. Other duties include promoting pin badge sales and promoting events/activities.

The skills you need

•To be able to lead and support in the delivery of the site's GREAT welcome system at all times •To advocate a positive 'can-do' membership culture, so that more membership conversations take place, with a higher proportion of those conversations resulting in members of the public joining and greater membership income for the RSPB •An infectious enthusiasm for nature and its conservation •A warm and friendly personality •The confidence to initiate conversations with the public •Able to communicate with visitors from all walks of life with differing knowledge and interest •The ability to listen and respond appropriately •The ability to inspire visitors to give nature a home where they live •Basic computer skills are needed for membership recruitment •An awareness of Health and Safety

Person Specification It is vitally important that we maintain a high standard of customer care in order to ensure that every visitor has a fantastic time from start to finish. It is essential that our members enjoy their visit so that they continue to support us, as well as giving non-members a great experience and encouraging them to join. We need to recruit 1,000 new members a year in order to run Bempton Cliffs and other sites like Coquet Island, making it a key aspect of volunteering in the Welcome role. Below are essential and desirable qualities for this role. Essential •Approachable, with a friendly demeanour •A desire to help people and exceed expectations through excellent customer care •Confidence to ask people to join the RSPB •Enjoy being part of a team •Confidence to initiate conversations with and talk to members of the public •Ability to communicate well and listen •Enthusiasm for wildlife and conservation •Willingness to learn and use basic sales techniques •Basic computer skills •Willingness to undertake appropriate training and personal development Desirable •Be confident in dealing with tricky situations •An eye for detail •An interest/willingness to learn about binoculars and bird care products •Knowledge of some RSPB work and a familiarity with Bempton Cliffs •Sales experience •Experience of using a till •Confident in handling money All background information, uniform and training will be provided.
