It is vitally important that we maintain a high standard of customer care in order to ensure that every visitor has a fantastic time from start to finish. It is essential that our members enjoy their visit so that they continue to support us, as well as giving non-members a great experience and encouraging them to join. We need to recruit 1,000 new members a year in order to run Bempton Cliffs and other sites like Coquet Island, making it a key aspect of volunteering in the Welcome role. Below are essential and desirable qualities for this role.
Approachable, with a friendly demeanour
A desire to help people and exceed expectations through excellent customer care
Confidence to ask people to join the RSPB
Enjoy being part of a team
Confidence to initiate conversations with and talk to members of the public
Ability to communicate well and listen
Enthusiasm for wildlife and conservation
Willingness to learn and use basic sales techniques
Basic computer skills
Willingness to undertake appropriate training and personal development
Be confident in dealing with tricky situations
An eye for detail
An interest/willingness to learn about binoculars and bird care products
Knowledge of some RSPB work and a familiarity with Bempton Cliffs
Experience of using a till
Confident in handling money
