Join our friendly team at our reserve visitor centre. We sell gifts, bird food and boxes, books and a whole lot more which helps to raise funds for nature where 90% of our net surplus goes directly to conservation. Our role is also to inspire people about the work of the RSPB. Importantly you don't need to have previous retail experience, a friendly & approachable manner are much more important for this role – we can train you in everything else you need to know before you start. Main tasks would include: • The handling of the deliveries of shop stock with the use of trolleys where required, putting stock into storage or on to shelves in the Visitors Centre. Supporting tasks would be: •Welcoming/greeting visitors in a warm and friendly manner. •Helping them find what they're looking for, includes general advice giving about products and visitor centre facilities. •Chatting to visitors about the reserve, the wildlife that's found here and inspiring them about the work of the RSPB in general. •Ringing up goods on the till which would of course involve handling cash and processing credit card payments – NB, we would train you fully in how to operate the till before you start in role •Assisting with queries from visitors about how they can join the RSPB as members. •Helping to keep the visitor centre shop clean and tidy • Maintaining displays and light administrative duties •Answering the telephone, taking bookings from members of the public who'd like to take part in a reserve event.

The skills you need

You would need to be able to comfortably handle, lift and store deliveries of shop stock. In supporting the retail team with customers you would need to be very comfortable and happy chatting to people and understand the importance of giving customers a great experience. Reliability is also key along with being presentable of course! A willingness to learn about the different merchandise we sell, e.g., telescopes, binoculars and bird care products is essential, so that you're able to advise visitors effectively.

Your time

What's in it for you?
