What we're looking for

You will lead and help with the smooth running of guided walks and other projects and to ensure attendees enjoy themselves. Our walks will include general information about Sherwood and its history, both the legendary and the natural. You will be a key part of showcasing our amazing wildlife and forest, bringing visitors in touch with nature and understanding why preserving it is so important. Some of our walks will be focussed on specific subjects such as birds, trees, fungi or insects so any special knowledge you have is valuable. But we can support you and give you the information you need to do this role as long as you have a keen interest and some general knowledge.

The skills you need

You'll need to have the confidence to strike up conversations with strangers, a desire to help, an enthusiasm for wildlife and conservation, but most important of all, you'll need a friendly demeanour and a ready smile! A passion for Sherwood and why the forest and the history, including Robin Hood, will also help. You need to be able to walk up to 3 miles at a steady pace on uneven paths.

Your time

Minimum:
One walk a week/ one walk a fortnight
Duration:
Ongoing
Period:
All year round

What's in it for you?

This role will suit someone who would gain satisfaction from passing on their passion about wildlife. There is the chance to learn more about our forest and enjoy the great outdoors, plus the opportunity to meet many people of different ages, backgrounds and knowledge levels. You will have the choice as to leading walks alone or with another member of the team. Some walks may involve helping with groups visiting from other RSPB reserves, universities or local groups. The RSPB is an active and exciting conservation charity, the largest in Europe! We can help you to gain skills and give you a valuable insight into our work.
