Vacancy type:
Helping visitors at our reserves
Location:
Middleton Lakes

What we're looking for

At Middleton Lakes we have started a new operation of visitor engagement. We have built a small reception building called the Visitor Hub and we want people visiting our reserve to be met with a smile and receive a great welcome. You will actively thank members for their support and ensure that visitor needs are understood and met to the best of your abilities. You will be selling light refreshments and activity packs for families. As well as keeping the visitor reception looking good you will also need to open and close the building. RSPB membership really is the lifeblood of the Society and underpins every single thing we do. It helps us fund nature conservation work here and across the UK - not only the ongoing land management of our reserves but also by creating and enhancing magnificent wild spaces for nature and people to enjoy. It is therefore important that you can inspire people about the work we do and warm them up to the idea of membership.

The skills you need

You'll need to have the confidence to strike up conversations with strangers, a desire to help, an enthusiasm for wildlife and conservation, but most important of all, you'll need a friendly demeanour and a ready smile!

Your time

Minimum:
Minimum one day per month 9.45am-3.15pm
Duration:
Ongoing
Period:
All year round

What's in it for you?

This role will suit someone who loves to meet and talk to visitors and who would gain satisfaction from passing on their passion about wildlife. It's also a great opportunity to work at a unique wildlife reserve learning more about nature, birds and wildlife whilst making a real difference to the work of the RSPB.

Notes

Appropriate training will be provided, and some are compulsory to the role to ensure we are compliant with data protection legislation as well as H+S procedures and safeguarding. The RSPB is the UK charity working to secure a healthy environment for birds and wildlife, helping to create a better world for all of us. We belong to BirdLife International, the global partnership of bird conservation organisations. Your time and skills could make a real difference to the work of the RSPB and it would be great if you could join us. Nature is amazing – help us keep it that way.
