What we're looking for

By providing visitors with incredible wildlife moments for 60 years, RSPB Loch Garten has built a strong reputation for great customer care and an exceptional visitor experience. In 2019, due to increased media coverage focussing on the incredible wildlife of the Cairngorms we are expecting an increase in visitor numbers. We need motivated and passionate volunteers to help us maintain our high standards and ensure all our visitors receive a warm welcome and have a wholly positive experience. As the faces of the Osprey Centre, our Visitor Centre Assistants are vital - chatting to visitors, answering questions and sharing their passion for the amazing wildlife around them. We need our visitors to be inspired and enthused so that they choose to support our work through membership, one of the most important sources of income for the organisation. As a Visitor Centre Assistant, you will work closely with other volunteers and the Visitor Experience team to: • Greet every visitor to the centre with a warm smile and strike up a conversation. • Offer information about the wildlife and the reserve itself, including upcoming events and activities, to ensure visitors have what they need for an enjoyable visit. Listening to the visitors' individual needs is key. • Promote RSPB membership as a meaningful way to support nature. • Help to run events when necessary and support the delivery of daily activities. • Keep the centre clean and tidy and looking great. This includes restocking leaflets, tidying the Discovery Zone and undertaking daily checks on activities and signage.

The skills you need

A warm and friendly personality, the confidence to initiate conversations with the public, an interest in and passion for wildlife, the ability to communicate with visitors from all walks of life with varying levels of interest and knowledge, the ability to listen and respond to visitors appropriately, a passion to inspire people to become more aware of the natural world, a positive 'can-do' attitude to membership, so that more membership conversations take place, with a higher proportion of those conversations resulting in members of the public joining and greater membership income for the RSPB.
