What we're looking for

Here at Consall Woods, we are striving to ensure a positive visitor experience for all. We are looking for people to chat to and enthuse visitors about this beautiful reserve. We need volunteers to help visitors make the most of their visit and encourage them to support our work; by becoming members or through volunteering. To ensure visitors get a great experience, we also need to ensure our visitor facilities are well presented, engaging and kept clean and tidy, and we'd ask you to help do this as part of your role. We will also be asking you to hand out visitor surveys so we can learn more about visitors to Consall Woods.

The skills you need

We're looking for outgoing, friendly people with the ability to talk to a wide range of people who also has an interest in wildlife and conservation. Knowledge of the reserve and its wildlife would be helpful but is not essential, as training can be given.

Your time

Minimum:
1 day per week preferable, but less often will be considered
Duration:
Ongoing
Period:
All year round but mainly spring and summer

What's in it for you?

You'll be working in, and supporting Consall Woods reserve, a beautiful woodland site hidden away in part of the Churnet Valley. This is a great opportunity to meet people from a wide variety of backgrounds and you'll become a key part of a small, enthusiastic and friendly team of staff and volunteers. We'll all be working together to make a positive difference to the reserve and our visitors so that we can all give nature a home. You will gain experience and training in customer service and income generation. The training and experience you will gain can help as a stepping stone towards a career in conservation.

Notes

Whilst we do encourage volunteers to be as green as possible, public transport can sometimes be difficult, so having your own transport would be very helpful. For some activities and events, light lifting and carrying may be needed (setting up marquees/tables) but this is by no means compulsory, and we will endeavour to cater to your own physical abilities. Volunteers can claim travel expenses. Appropriate training and background information will be provided and since you'll be giving up your time, it's only fair that we offer to reimburse your travel expenses (up to 25 miles). The RSPB speaks out for birds and wildlife, tackling the problems that threaten our environment. We rely upon memberships and donations to fund our work. By volunteering your time and skills, you could make a real difference to the work of the RSPB. Nature is amazing – help us keep it that way.
