What we're looking for

Love your nature? Passionate and knowledgeable about LGBTQIA+ issues? Would you enjoy the opportunity to have a real impact in our LGBTQIA+ affinity group? We are looking for volunteers with knowledge of these areas to help with improving and enhancing our existing processes, policies and resources. Working with our "Starlings" affinity group of LGBTQIA+ staff and volunteers you could be commenting on written materials, helping us plan our attendance at Pride events, as well as sharing your views at our regular meetings. We're also looking for your support with administrative aspects of the group such as scheduling meetings, taking notes, etc. The RSPB is committed to promoting equality of opportunity at all levels and reflecting the diverse communities that we are part of.

The skills you need

Knowledge of, and interest in, LGBTQIA+ issues, particularly related to implementing solutions in the workplace. You don't need any experience of working in an office, but good administrative and organisation skills are essential. Good computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft office are desirable (training can be provided for any systems that are unfamiliar including RSPB in house systems). Some experience of meetings, including drafting agendas and taking notes would also be desirable. A genuine desire to support the organisation to implement practical solutions to continuously improve its approach to Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI).

Your time

Minimum 2-3 hours each month
All year round

What's in it for you?

This is an amazing opportunity to use your skills, knowledge and passion for LGBTQIA+ issues to influence, shape direction and contribute to the decision making of the RSPB. You would have the support of our "Starlings" LGBTQIA+ affinity group. You would learn more about our geographically dispersed and varied organisation as well as gaining insight into the charity and conservation sector. You would be an integral part of regular "Starlings" LGBTQIA+ group meetings - currently around 2 hours every other month (plus preparation and follow up actions etc).

This role could be performed at home with your own computer and phone access. Our meetings are held during office hours and are done by videoconference without the need for travel. However, if you would enjoy being part of a bigger team and meeting new people then you could also work from the RSPB's UK Headquarters, Sandy, Bedfordshire - or any RSPB office - though the hours and days would be less flexible. Appropriate training will be provided and expenses will be reimbursed where necessary. Please drop Hugo an email outlining how you can help - closing date Monday 20 April 2020. The RSPB speaks out for birds and wildlife, tackling the problems that threaten our environment. We rely upon memberships and donations to fund our work. By volunteering your time and skills, you could make a real difference to the work of the RSPB. Our nature is amazing – help us keep it that way.
