What we're looking for

We need someone to run and take ownership of our reserve workshop. The Aylesbeare staff and volunteer team are extremely busy taking care of all aspects of heathland habitat management. This requires not only dedication, skill and time, but excellent working tools and machinery to be effective and most importantly safe. This is a really important and valuable role and we need someone who will take pride with their organisation, care and maintenance of the tools. Tasks include:- -Maintaining and repairing all the tools to a high standard. Our preference is always to mend and repair rather than to buy new if it is safe to do so. -Keeping the workshop organised clean and tidy with systems in place for checking and maintaining the tools and machines. -Maintaining the vehicles and machinery, or organising their repairs and parts. -Assisting in the chopping of wood using our machinery and maybe to take control of our firewood sales procedure if you are the right person for it.

The skills you need

You need to be organised, self sufficient, practical and have expertise and good working knowledge of tools and machinery. You also need to be innovative, conscientious and take pride in your work.

Your time

Minimum:
Flexible - but 1 day per week desirable
Duration:
Ongoing
Period:
All year round

What's in it for you?

This is a fantastic opportunity to put your skills to excellent use and run a large workshop with a wide range of tools and machines. You'll be central to the smooth running of the reserve and part of a dedicated and welcoming team. The role is practical, varied and it will make a huge difference to our work at Aylesbeare Common. This role is perfect if you love tinkering in a workshop, have an interest in tools and machines and enjoy the satisfaction of mending and repairing. In addition you'll be meeting and working with like-minded people giving you the chance to form new friendships, develop and learn new skills. This is also an opportunity to be able to get involved and have some fun with various types of practical work, all of which make such a difference to our work at Aylesbeare Common.
