What we're looking for

At RSPB we know that young people are a key stakeholder to drive our mission to address the climate and nature emergency we face. We wish to support and empower young people to bring about the nature-positive future that they hope for The Education, Families and Youth team's core aim is to facilitate saving nature through our young people. We understand that the medium of film is how many young people now learn in their schools, access, absorb and share information, build their online networks and fight for causes important to them. To this end, we wish to offer an experienced film and communications specialist the opportunity to raise the profile of youth voice within RSPB Scotland and ensure that young people's stories are told wider across the sector and beyond. • Hold meetings with key RSPB departments to develop ideas. • Develop initial story or concept into a production-feasible, fully planned project. • Work with Education, Families & Youth colleagues and provide feedback on the further development of scripts. • Seek out youth stories across Scotland to develop youth-led content. • Ensure safeguarding measures, consent and data protection measures are in place. • Identify and select suitable locations for filming. • Supervise all creative aspects of the production. • Direct participants during the filming. • Edit footage to present the final version of the film to team. • Select music for the final film and/or work with a composer to decide on the musical score. • Build and develop a network of contacts to ensure powerful youth stories are being told. • Maintain contemporary technical skills. • Have an awareness and knowledge of emerging industry trends.

The skills you need

We are looking for a motivated and experienced individual with a high-quality film making portfolio to volunteer within the Scotland HQ Education, Families and Youth team. The following skills would be useful: • Technical skills. Skill with cameras, audio and editing equipment is important. • Experience directing short films, industry knowledge and technical expertise. • Confidence and motivational skill. • Exceptional interpersonal skills. • Attention to detail. • Excellent verbal communication. • Creative flair. • Initiative and problem-solving ability. • Diplomacy and sensitivity. • Motivational and leadership skills. • The ability to work under pressure. • Excellent time management. • Ability to manage multiple project deadlines simultaneously.
