What we're looking for

'The Lookout' hide on the edge of Topsham looks out over the wildlife haven of the RSPB's Bowling Green Marsh nature reserve. 'The Lookout' is a fantastic location for all visitors, from wildlife enthusiasts to those who just come to enjoy the view. Our aim is to ensure that everyone gets a wonderful experience when they visit and they leave feeling more engaged and passionate about wildlife. To get this experience right, we need a dedicated individual to take ownership of 'The Lookout' to ensure that it is well managed and resourced with catering supplies and a rota of dedicated Welcome Volunteers. Once settled into the role, we will be asking you to work with the Visitor Operations team to develop a small events programme for 'The Lookout' and to create and look at opportunities to enhance the visitor experience.

The skills you need

This is a role where you will be taking ownership of 'The Lookout' and so you need to be super organised, resourceful and self motivated and be proactive and creative with ideas and solutions to problems. A large part of this role is organising the rota and ensuring that the Welcome Team have everything they need, including knowledge and confidence and so you need to be an excellent communicator, approachable and very good with people.

Your time

4-5 hours a week initially. More maybe required as we build the roles and volunteers recruited to support 'The Lookout' experience.
All year round

What's in it for you?

This is a great opportunity to enhance and improve an experience for our visitors that in turn will have big benefits for wildlife. You will be an integral part of a growing team who are committed to success and willing to listen to future proposals and enhancements. Although you will need to visit 'The Lookout' regularly and attend meetings with the Visitor Team, large elements of the role can be done from home at a time that suites you. Wildlife knowledge is not required for this role, but by spending time overlooking the peaceful beauty of the RSPB's Bowling Green Marsh and Goosemeoor nature reserves you'll start to learn about and love the reserve's wildlife and there will be lots of opportunities to engage with and learn about the wider work of the RSPB too!
