Ancient Oak at Sheerwood Forest

UK Woodland Assurance Standard certification

The RSPB has certified its woods and forests on over 60 nature reserves in the UK against the UK Woodland Assurance Standard (UKWAS), for sites that have more than 10ha of wooded land.

UKWAS and RSPB nature reserves

UKWAS is a voluntary forest management standard that is approved by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) (FSC licence code FSC-C131089). UKWAS covers a range of environmental, social and economic requirements. It can be used to demonstrate credible responsible forest management when combined with independent third party audit.

The RSPB has certified these woodlands to UKWAS/FSC to externally demonstrate its commitment to responsible forest management. The RSPB is committed to meeting the Forest Stewardship Council Principles and Criteria for responsible forest management for our certified woodland in the UK.

The RSPB’s UKWAS/FSC auditors are Soil Association Forestry.

This certification runs from 8 July 2016 for 5 years - FSC Certificate Registration Code: SA-FM/COC-005221 - subject to meeting independent third party compliance audits every year.

The RSPB is a member of the steering group that oversees the UKWAS standard (see: www.ukwas.org.uk).
